Nordette as an Emergency Contraceptive in the Philippines

I am not really an expert on this but I'm just writing this as a testimonial. I took Nordette (Wyeth), the one with a green packaging inclusive of 21 pills as an Emergency Contraceptive here in the Philippines, since we don't have Plan B or any labeled ECPs available here.

Just to get to the point it is EFFECTIVE. So if you are considering to use Nordette as an ECP, I strongly recommend it. The use of Nordette as an ECP is OFF-LABEL, hindi sinabi sa packaging that it can be an ECP but just a normal oral contraceptive but IT CAN BE USED as an ECP. This is something that you should take or do at your own risk though. I just want to be clear, I am NOT a doctor or in the medical field. I am just sharing an experience and my knowledge about Nordette as an ECP.

This is what happened in my case:

On May 5, 2012 at around 11:30 PM my husband and I had intercourse, unfortunately, the condom broke (as in it literally exposed his manhood) and he ejaculated inside me. Too late when we found out his cum was already inside me. We aren't ready for a baby yet. FYI lang, this might help, my last period (first day) was on April 28, 2012. Bale, May 5, was the fourth day since nung huli kong menstruation. But I am super IREG talaga.

After 2 hours of the deed, I searched the internet for an ECP I can take and found out about Nordette. At around 2:30 AM of May 6, I  brought Nordette from Mercury Drug (it's 178.00 pesos) and immediately took 4 pills. After taking the first dose, I took my second dose of Nordette 12 hours later at exactly 2:30 PM of May 6. Throughout the week I felt cramps and breast tenderness. After 8 days, May 13, 2012 at 11:00 PM, I started to bleed like it's menstruation (but as I know of withdrawal bleeding ito) but still I feel relieved because this is an assurance for me.

Ayun. I was just sharing to help the others like me. I will update this post when I get my real menstruation and when I take a pregnancy test but I am pretty sure that I am not.

Just take note of these if you are considering to use Nordette:

  1. Take it within 72 hours of unprotected sex, THE SOONER YOU TAKE IT THE BETTER. In my opinion, get it within 24 hours!
  2. Once you get Nordette, in the Philippines it's 21 pills (very very light orange ang color) take 4 pills (YES! sabay sabay) immediately. Take note of the time. After 12 HOURS, take another 4 pills.
  3. Do not take anymore pills after the second dose, itago nalang yung mga natira.
  4. All you have to do after the second dose is to WAIT and relax since stressing yourself won't change anything. May I suggest, get involved in physical activities, move around and magpapawis, to me, that's when I felt the bleeding was going to come strongest. I guess it helps the system.
and may I just add, that IT IS SUCH A SHAME that ECPs like PLAN B ay banned sa Pilipinas. Women should have a say if they CAN raise or they WANT a baby! Because this can also make or break theirs as well as the baby's! And we have the right to know and have access to all kinds of contraceptives available.
